UFC Vegas 56 goes down this weekend at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. In the main event, Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik lock horns to jump back into title contention.
Both Volkov and Rozenstruik are coming off losses. The Russian was blown away by Tom Aspinall at UFC London a couple of months ago, whereas the Surinamese lost to Curtis Blaydes by unanimous decision at UFC 266.
UFC Vegas 56 Analysis And Prediction
Volkov is one of the most technical strikers in the UFC heavyweight division, with high output and knockout power. ‘Drago’ typically enjoys a significant height and reach advantage against his opponents, and it won’t be any different this time around as he will have a five-inch reach and two-inch height advantage over Rozenstruik, who has vicious one-punch knockout power in his fists, although he will have to close the distance and take risks to land his shots.
The Moscow native will try to stay at distance and land his shots, making it hard for Rozenstruik to land, but if Rozenstruik can pressure his opponent and put him on the back foot, he is capable enough to turn his lights out.
Statistically, Volkov has the edge as he lands close to five significant strikes per minute on average, whereas Rozenstruik lands close to three. Both fighters absorb close to three significant strikes per minute on average. Volkov also has a better significant strikes percentage of 57 percent, whereas Rozenstruik’s significant strike percentage is 45 percent. Neither fighter likes taking the fight to the mat so we should expect an all-out striking contest.
In a five-round fight, Rozenstruik will have enough time on his hands to get the KO, but expect Volkov to stay at distance and land heavy damage on his opponent.
