Stephen Thompson has given his thoughts on a potential fight between UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Conor McGregor.

McGregor most recently faced Dustin Poirier in their trilogy at UFC 264, where he lost by a doctor’s stoppage after breaking his tibia moments before the end of the first round. The Irishman recently revealed that he is targeting a return in the summer, as his recovery is going well and he will resume full training in April.

‘The Notorious’ wants an immediate title shot upon his return to the Octagon, preferably against Usman, who most recently defended his title by beating Colby Covington in a closely-contested fight at UFC 268. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, who is expected to put his title on the line against Leon Edwards in the summer, believes he would “murder” McGregor in a potential fight, but he doesn’t mind giving him a title shot.

Dana White isn’t ruling out the possibility of a fight between Usman and McGregor either, but Thompson believes it isn’t a good idea. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former two-time welterweight title challenger said that former two-division champ would get demolished by Usman.

“McGregor’s going to get demolished by Usman. Yeah, he’s going to be a big fight, a big payday but you’re going to get demolished,” Thompson said. “Dude, I love you Conor but you put on the weight like that and you’re fighting a dude at 170 [pounds]. I mean you got to try and put some weight on to become a real 170 [pounder]. I mean, look at Kamaru, look at the biceps and shoulders on that guy. He’s got both attributes, he’s got cardio for days and he’s one of the top wrestlers in the welterweight division.”

Do you agree with Stephen Thompson that Kamaru Usman would demolish Conor McGregor?
