Kamaru Usman and Dana White have reacted to Conor McGregor’s demand of an immediate UFC welterweight title shot upon his return from injury in the summer.

McGregor is coming off back-to-back defeats at the hands of Dustin Poirier, most recently at UFC 264, where he lost by a doctor’s stoppage after breaking his tibia. In a recent interview, the Irishman revealed that he will resume full training in April as he’s recovering well, and stated that he wanted to challenge UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira, who is already booked to defend his title against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 in May.

With Oliveira already booked, McGregor has turned his attention towards Usman. Speaking to The Mac Life (as transcribed by MMA Junkie), ‘The Notorious’ said that he wants to fight ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

“I believe myself versus Usman for the 170-pound title for my comeback fight is the one I’m eyeballing at the minute,” McGregor said. “I’ve gotten myself down to a lightweight frame, but I’m big now. I feel big, I feel strong, I feel healthy, I’ve got good energy. Coming back after a gruesome injury, I do not want to deplete myself. There’s no need to deplete myself. And I feel confident against Usman – a jab-happy, sloppy orthodox wrestler with no submissions whatsoever. What’s he gonna do? Where’s the danger here? I don’t see a danger with him.”

In an apparent reply to McGregor, Usman said that he would “murder” him in a potential fight.

Dana showed an interest in the idea of a potential fight between the two, adding that he will soon talk to McGregor about his future plans.

“Yeah, it’s interesting, I hadn’t heard that. He’s coming into Vegas, we’re getting together and we’re gonna talk,” Dana said. “We’ll see what’s next… Any Conor fight is good money-wise.”
