Darren Till has given his thoughts on how he thinks the vacant heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane will play out.
Jones will return to fight Ciryl Gane for the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285, almost three years after defending his light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes by a controversial decision at UFC 247 in 2020. The Albuquerque native vacated his title in August of the same year, teasing a move up to heavyweight.
For nearly two years, the UFC worked on a potential super fight between ‘Bones’ and Francis Ngannou but the promotion failed to work around their contractual dispute with the Cameroonian, resulting in the two parties breaking ties earlier this month.
Darren Till On Jones vs Gane
Jones vs Gane is still a very intriguing fight, and Till is certainly excited about it. In a recent interview with Basketball Insiders, the Brit shared his pick for the fight.
“What a fight! Wow! It’s interesting because Francis Ngannou took Gane down and Jones is the best wrestler in the heavyweight division and that speaks volumes for me,” Till said, “Jones is not a stupid fighter who’ll go striking with Gane, he’ll mix it up. Jones has been out for a hell of a long time but I still think he’ll prove too strong. But it will be great viewing.”
Since his defeat to Ngannou at UFC 270, where he lost by a decision after getting dominated in wrestling, Gane has been working with a couple of wrestlers from Dagestan, per his coach. It’ll be interesting to see the improvements he’s made to his game.
As far as Till is concerned, he’s riding a three-fight losing skid, with his most recent loss coming to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 282.
