Conor McGregor is eyeing a UFC lightweight title fight against champion Charles Oliveira upon his return from injury next summer.

Oliveira made his first successful title defence this past weekend at UFC 269, where he submitted Dustin Poirier in the third round. The Brazilian had a tough first round, where he was on the receiving end of several stinging punches, but he came back to turn the tables on his foe in the next two rounds.

McGregor was very impressed with Oliveira’s performance and congratulated him on his huge win.

A day later, the Irishman challenged the champion to a title fight in a tweet that said “So what date am I fighting Oliveira?”

McGregor also posted a photo of himself with a championship belt wrapped around his waist.

Oliveira’s Coach On Potential McGregor Fight

Earlier this month, Oliveira’s coach Diego Lima told Sherdog that his pupil would be willing to fight McGregor to avenge Jose Aldo, who was knocked out by the Dublin native in only 13 seconds in their featherweight title fight at UFC 194.

“McGregor is a villain for Brazilian fans. Also, because of everything he represents and all the records he has set in our sport, Charles would love to face him,” Lima said. “If [McGregor] doesn’t want to return to 155 pounds, I believe Charles would be willing to face him at 170. Brazilian fans deserve revenge for that fight with [Jose] Aldo, and I would love to have Charles be the one who removes the bad taste from the Brazilian fan’s mouths.”

‘The Notorious’ is coming off two back to back defeats against Dustin Poirier, at UFC 257 by second round knockout and at UFC 264 by a doctor’s stoppage. He also has only one win at lightweight, when he defeated Eddie Alvarez to win the title at UFC 205.

Who do you think would win a potential fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier?
