UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski has admitted that it was silly of him to accuse Max Holloway of faking an injury to pull out of their scheduled featherweight title fight at UFC 273.

Holloway was scheduled to challenge Volkanovski at UFC 272 but had to withdraw due to an injury, making way for ‘The Korean Zombie’ to step in as a replacement to face the champ, with their fight scheduled to take place at UFC 273 next month.

Weeks after the 145-pound title fight between Volkanovski and ‘The Korean Zombie’ was announced however, it was reported that Holloway would serve as backup having fully recovered from his injury. This prompted the champion to accuse his former two-time opponent of faking an injury to duck him.

In a recent interview with Submission Radio (as transcribed by MMA Junkie), Volkanovski admitted that it was silly of him to accuse Holloway of faking an injury.

“It was frustrating because at the time I really wanted that fight, you know what I mean, and once you heard he got injured, especially when they announced it earlier, it was all a bit confusing and frustrating,” Volkanovski said. “So you seen my frustration obviously. I wanted to tweet and have a little shot at Max and his fans, and that was the only reason, which was pretty silly on my behalf, to be honest. That just shows you where sort of my head was at back then, you know what I mean? That’s something that I’ve really been working on lately.”

Who do you think will win the featherweight title fight between Alex Volkanovski and ‘The Korean Zombie’?
