Ciryl Gane is eyeing a big money fight with Jon Jones after his impressive third round knockout win over Tai Tuivasa this past weekend at UFC Paris.
Gane and Tuivasa closed out UFC’s debut in France with a spectacular heavyweight main event, which ended with the Parisian winning by third round knockout. After a slow first round, both fighters upped the ante in the second frame, with the Frenchman attacking his opponent’s body, while the Aussie relying on lowkicks and haymakers, one of which connected and dropped ‘Bon Gamin’, who was able to recover quickly.
Ciryl Gane Wants Jon Jones Next
The former interim heavyweight champion kept attacking Tuivasa’s body in the third round, and eventually got the better of him half a minute before the end of the round. Now that he’s back in the win column after his loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270, Gane wants to fight Jones next, he said during the UFC Paris post-fight show (as transcribed by MMA Fighting).
“To have Jon Jones in this division is going to put some more light, [and] the division is going to shine a little bit more and more,” Gane said. “That’s why I’m so happy to have this guy in this division. I don’t know what’s going to happen exactly. People talk about Stipe [Miocic] against Jones, but I’m here. I’m here. I don’t have a good answer [about who is next but] – maybe Jon Jones for the hype, for the money.”
While Gane would love to fight Jones, Stipe Miocic is the favourite to fight the former UFC light heavyweight champion and the promotion is hoping to book a fight between the two soon.
The only viable option for Gane appears to be Curtis Blaydes, but he isn’t very keen on fighting him.
“I think maybe Stipe or Jones [will be next],” Gane said. “I’m sorry, bro, if I have a choice, it’s not going to be Blaydes. This is not smart.”
