Belal Muhammad Reveals Why He’s Backing Diaz Over Chimaev

Belal Muhammad is backing Nate Diaz to shock the world by defeating Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC 279 main event next month.

With only one fight left on his current deal, Diaz will fight out his contract against Chimaev at UFC 279. The Stockton native is currently on a two-fight losing skid, with his most recent loss coming at the hands of Leon Edwards at UFC 263. The Chechen-Swede is on a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, with his most recent win coming against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.

Chimaev is a huge favourite and most fans expect him to run through Diaz. The MMA legend has his share of supporters however, who are hoping that he will pull off the upset and ruin the promotion’s plan of a potential fight between ‘Borz’ and UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who will put his title on the line against Edwards at UFC 278 later this month.

Belal Muhammad On Chimaev vs Diaz

During a UFC 280 press conference (as transcribed by MMA News), Muhammad revealed why he’s backing Diaz to ‘ruin the party’ by beating Chimaev.

“The big money fight that they’re trying to make is Khamzat against the winner of Kamaru against Leon,” Muhammad said. “But for me, I’m team Diaz over here. So, Nate, hit my line and I’ll come out there and help you train. We’ll win this fight. I mean, who’s not a Nate Diaz fan? I’m always a Diaz fan. Chimaev lied to me. He told me he was going to meet me, he didn’t hit me up, he didn’t answer my calls. So, now I’m team Diaz and I’m hoping he ruins the party, ’cause obviously, we know what (fight) they [UFC] want to make.”
