Former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor has praised Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder for giving their all in their boxing trilogy this past weekend.
The wild back-and-forth brawl between the two heavyweight boxers was a present for the fans, as both fighters landed heavy blows and scored knockdowns before Fury eventually bagged the knockout win in the eleventh round to retain his WBC heavyweight title.
Fury’s latest triumph earned him bragging rights in a bitter rivalry that spanned three fights, with the first bout ending in a draw, and the Brit winning the second one by TKO, although he was accused of cheating by Wilder.
McGregor thoroughly enjoyed the boxing spectacle between Fury and Wilder, but he also appears to have had flashbacks of his trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, which ended after the first round as the Irishman was unable to continue due to a broken tibia.
McGregor Lauds Fury And Wilder, Slams Poirier
Taking to Twitter, McGregor spoke highly of Fury and Wilder but criticised Poirier once again for celebrating a doctor’s stoppage.
“Great fight that. Both warriors, both winners,” McGregor said. “Hard to not be impressed with Deontay there. Against the much larger man and almost got it done. Great fight. 40lb’s in weight difference is A LOT. Fair play both men there, very enjoyable fights they have had together. Respect.
“Their skill levels are unique but very close. A great heavyweight trilogy that was. I love when it gets set for certain and both have an honourable showing. Not the fam in the ring fake celebrating after a freak injury etc etc you know the gig, God bless the real in this world.
“Congrats Tyson and Paris (Fury’s wife). Me and Dee (McGregor’s girlfriend) are so happy for you and the kids. Congrats Deontay and Telli (Wilder’s girlfriend) also. Was great meeting you guys recently. A real proud showing that was, and could have went either way. Amazing! Happy Sunday now today with the cheddar and the memory’s God bless.”
