Shavkat Rakhmonov has given his thoughts on the upcoming vacant heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane.

Jones will face Gane in a vacant heavyweight title fight at UFC 285. He was initially expected to challenge former heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but after his departure from the UFC over contractual issues, the promotion moved on with a fight between the former light heavyweight champion and the Frenchman.

‘Bones’ is confident that he will have the upper hand, wherever the fight takes place, and he can’t wait to prove that he’s still the best fighter in the world. In his recent activity on Twitter, the Albuquerque native said that he has faced better strikers than Gane in his career.

Daniel Cormier among others however believe that Jones will struggle against the striker of Gane’s calibre. Rakhmonov tends to agree with the idea.

In an interview with SportsKeeda, Rakhamonov said that the only way Jones can win the fight is by taking it to the ground.

“I don’t really know in what shape Jon Jones is in right now,” Rakhmonov said. “He hasn’t fought for such a long time. Ciryl is a great striker. The only chance for Jones is to take this fight to the ground. If it is going to be a standup fight, Ciryl Gane is going to win.”

Jones last fought at UFC 247 in 2020, where he defended his light heavyeight title against Dominick Reyes by a controversial decision, before vacating it in August later that year. Gane most recently fought at UFC Paris in September last year, finishing Tai Tuivasa in the third round.
