Justin Gaethje has heaped praise on his next opponent Dustin Poirier for his twin wins against Conor McGregor in 2021.

Poirier scored back-to-back wins against Conor McGregor at UFC 257 by second-round knockout and at UFC 264, where he won by a doctor’s stoppage after the Irishman broke his tibia seconds before the end of the first round.

Among the many who enjoyed McGregor’s losses was Gaethje, who admitted that he’d end up like the former champ-champ if he isn’t perfect against Poirier.

“It was a great learning experience. Tons of respect for the dude,” Gaethje told retired champ Daniel Cormier on DC & RC. “He’s a dog, and what he’s done to [Conor] McGregor the last couple fights was super impressive. I always love to see that dude get broken.

“So this guy’s a dog and I know I’m going to have to be perfect. I know that there’s no need for animosity. We’re two of the best, most violent athletes in the sport. We both love what we do. We both love the carnage and we’re both content with what we’re about to put ourselves through. It’s all preparation. He’s super confident. I’m super confident coming off this last win. And again, this card is stacked. It’s going to be an electric night.”

Gaethje is coming off a dominant decision win against Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286, whereas Poirier is coming off a submission win against Michael Chandler at UFC 281. The two will lock horns in a highly-anticipated BMF title fight at UFC 291.

Who do you think will win the upcoming BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier?
