Alex Volkanovski is poised to teach Ilia Topuria a lesson in their upcoming featherweight title clash at UFC 298.
‘The Great’, who most recently faced Islam Makhachev on short notice at UFC 294, was brutally knocked out, and Topuria has been using his loss to claim that he will beat the Aussie worse than the Dagestani.
Volk recently responded to Topuria’s bold claims by saying that he will teach the fiery Georgian a lesson.
“He thinks he’s the best, but he’s going to be shown there are levels to this,” Volkanovski said during a UFC 298 pre-fight press conference. “As I’ve been saying in interviews, you’ve got to earn your stripes and he hasn’t been there. He thinks he’s the man, he thinks he’s at the top of the division already, and he hasn’t even faced anyone right up there.
“If he ever gets to that point where he’s going to be a champion, or a great champion, he needs for me to do what I plan on doing to him. I’m going to give him a good humbling. Maybe he can bounce back after that, learn a thing or two, and go from there. But he’s going to be shown a good lesson, a good humbling, and I can’t wait to do that.”
Topuria is currently undefeated in MMA, with his most recent win coming against Josh Emmett in June last year. ‘El Matador’ also holds notable victories against Bryce Mitchell and Ryan Hall, and he is being regarded as Volkanovski’s toughest test at featherweight due to his speed, tenacity and aggression.
