UFC 284 went down on Saturday night at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. In the main event, Islam Makhacheva and Alex Volkanovski produced a Fight of the Year contender, but ultimately, the Dagestani was declared the winner. The fight was an absolute barn burner from start to finish, with both men surprising each other. Volkanovski surprised Makhachev with his wrestling defence, and the Russian surprised his foe with his improved striking.
In the co-main event, Yair Rodriguez delivered one of the best performances of his career to win the interim featherweight title by submitting Josh Emmett in the second round. Elsewhere on the UFC 284 main card, Jack Della Maddalena made light work of Randy Brown, submitting him in the first round and Justin Tafa dispatched Parker Porter in a little over a minute. The main card opener between Jimmy Crute and Alonzo Menifield was ruled a majority draw.
