Matt Brown believes Belal Muhammad is the biggest threat to the top guys in the UFC welterweight division, including Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev.

Muhammad has won eight out of his last nine fights, with one no-contest due to an accidental eye poke against reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC Vegas 21. His most recent win came against Sean Brady by second round at TKO at UFC 280. ‘Remember The Name’ is now eyeing a showdown against Chimaev, who is more interested in a middleweight title fight against Alex Pereira.

Although Muhammad isn’t among the more popular fighters in his division, he’s definitely the dark horse and has the potential to beat the biggest names. With wins over Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson and Vicente Luque in the last two years, the Chicago native has proven that he’s a force to be reckoned with. His performances have certainly caught the attention of Brown.

Matt Brown On Belal Muhammad

In a recent appearance on MMA Fighting’s The Fighter vs The Writer podcast, Brown said that Muhammad is the biggest threat in the welterweight division.

“I think Belal Muhammad is probably the biggest threat to all of these guys, I think Usman beats Leon and the champ at the end of the year is either Belal or Usman,” Brown said. “I think Belal beats Khamzat and I’m 50-50 on him beating Usman. That’s a really, really close fight that I think goes to a decision and is probably a really tough call for the judges.”

With Usman expected to take time off due to injury, Muhammad is hoping to secure a title fight against Edwards, and given how the first fight between the two ended, a rematch wouldn’t be a bad idea. However, Chimaev also has a history with ‘Rocky’ and his popularity could force the UFC to ignore the American in his favour.
