Sean O’Malley doesn’t understand why he is being compared with the UFC’s self-proclaimed cash cow Paddy Pimblett.
Pimblett scored a controversial unanimous decision victory against Jared Gordon at UFC 282, where he was pushed to the limit, improving to 4-0 in the promotion with three finishes. The Brit has become quite a star in no time, and has drawn comparisons with O’Malley, who most recently defeated Petr Yan also by a controversial decision.
Sean O’Malley On Paddy Pimblett
O’Malley has been in the promotion for a while now, and he believes Pimblett comparisons make absolutely no sense. Speaking on his YouTube channel (as transcribed by MMA News), ‘Suga’ Sean said that he shouldn’t be compared with ‘Baddy’ because they are not fighting the same level of competition.
“Mine, I fought Petr Yan,” O’Malley said. “I fought the number-one killer. Jared Gordon is good, and he proved that he’s good, but it’s not even in the same conversation. I’m curious if you rewatch back Paddy vs Gordon if you see it the same way. Because a lot of people, Joe Rogan said it even, he said ‘I rewatched [O’Malley vs Yan], I sat down and rewatched it, and you did win round one and three.’ This, I’m curious if you sit back down and pay attention to it, do you give [it to Pimblett]?”
O’Malley is the frontrunner to fight for the bantamweight title next, and believes he’s the biggest name in the division. Aljamain Sterling is also willing to give him a shot at his crown.
