Colby Covington has issued a warning to champion Leon Edwards ahead of their welterweight clash at UFC 296.
The highly-anticipated welterweight title fight between Covington and Edwards will be the American’s third attempt at the belt. Having failed twice before against Kamaru Usman, ‘Chaos’ hopes to turn the tide in his favor when he steps in the cage against ‘Rocky’, who the former interim champion thinks is a favorable matchup for him.
Covington recently took to social media and shared a training video with a warning for Edwards.
“UFC 296. Tick Tock Leon,” Covington said. “Three weeks to go. Everybody knows you didn’t want this fight. But just like the English, who didn’t want to give us our freedom. We took it. And December 16th is no different. I’m taking the belt back to America. And you’re going back to the UK empty-handed junior. See you soon.”
Covington recently fought friend-turned-arch rival Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272 in March 2022, when he secured a victory by a unanimous decision.
Edwards on the other hand is currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak. In his most recent fights, he knocked out Usman in the dying moments of their title fight at UFC 278, before defeating him by a comfortable decision at UFC 286.
