UFC Vegas 29: The Korean Zombie vs Dan Ige

UFC Vegas 29 goes down this weekend at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. In the main event, ‘The Korean Zombie’ takes on Dan Ige in a high-octane top-ten featherweight contest.

‘The Korean Zombie’ is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Island 6, while Ige is coming off a spectacular first-round knockout victory over Gavin Tucker at UFC Vegas 21.

Jung Chan Sung is a huge step up in competition for Ige, but it’s also a very crucial fight for the Korean, and a loss would be a major setback for the top-five contender. It’s also an intriguing matchup as both fighters are predominantly kickboxers with an extremely underrated ground game.

Analysis And Prediction

‘The Korean Zombie’ and Ige are very well-matched in all departments. Statistically, there’s not a lot between them. Jung lands a total of 4.25 significant strikes per minute on average, while Ige lands 3.95.

The two also absorb a lot of strikes in their fights. ‘The Korean Zombie’ absorbs 3.77 significant strikes per minute on average, with the Hawaiian absorbing a total of 3.36.

Ige is a very technical striker who out strikes people with volume. He’s also faster than the Busan native, who keeps pressing forward and landing big shots. Both fighters have a great amount of power in their hands and are very durable, so we should expect a slugfest if they stand and trade at UFC Vegas 29.

Both fighters have a very underrated ground game, although Ige usually utilises more of it during his fights, and he might be the one initiating grappling exchanges this weekend. However, ‘The Korean Zombie’ has a good enough takedown defence to keep the fight on the feet.

All in all, it will be a back-and-forth kickboxing contest, with Ige getting his hand raised on the night.

Prediction: Dan Ige by decision
