Daniel Cormier wants Zhang Weili to fight in China after her dominant performance against Amanda Lemos at UFC 292.
‘Magnum’ steamrolled Lemos to successfully defend her strawweight title at UFC 292, where she had a striking differential of more than 250 strikes. Known for her explosive striking, Zhang put her grappling skills on display against the Brazilian, beating her from pillar to post.
Cormier thinks she should fight Yan Xioanan next.
“Zhang Weili proved once again that she’s the best. I have said this time and time again,” Cormier said while speaking on his YouTube channel (as transcribed by MMA News). “I think the world of this young lady. She is finally showing in her performances that she’s ready to dominate the toughest weight class we have in female fighting. She dominated Amanda Lemos, from the wrestling to the striking.”
“Zhang Weili, if she can continue to fight at this level, is gonna be a handful for anyone, and it’s gonna be hard for somebody to take that belt off of her. She’s so well-conditioned, she’s so well-prepared, she’s got such a strong mindset now… I wanna see her fight again in China against Yan Xiaonan, because I think the one thing that hurts her is her inconsistency. If she’s more consistent, I think she should be a global phenomenon.”
Xioanan is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, with her most recent victory coming against Jessica Andrade at UFC 288.
Tatiana Suarez, who also secured a win against Jessica Andrade in her most recent fight, is also a solid option.
