UFC Vegas 5 went down on Saturday night at the APEX Center in Las Vegas. The promotion’s return to Nevada after a month on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi only featured eight fights, after numerous fights fell through over the last few days. In the main event, Derek Brunson dished out the first loss of Edmen Shahbazyan’s career. The 36 year old scored a TKO victory early in the third and final round, to upset the odds in the middleweight top ten clash.
Joanne Calderwood’s gamble to take a fight instead of waiting for her title shot against Valentina Shevchenko backfired, after she was submitted by Jennifer Maia in the first round of the UFC Vegas 5 co-main event. Elsewhere on the main card, Vicente Luque stopped Randy Brown and Bobby Brown beat Lando Vannata via unanimous decision.
Due to several cancellations in the last few days, UFC Vegas 5 only featured eight fights.
