Anthony Johnson has shared his thoughts on a potential showdown with Yoel Romero in Bellator.
Both Johnson and Romero signed with Bellator after parting ways with the UFC earlier this month. ‘Soldier of God’, who fought at middleweight throughout his UFC career, will be moving up to the light heavyweight division in his new promotion, raising talks of a potential fan favourite fight between the two phenoms.
Johnson vs Romero
Romero said he is “90 percent” confident his Bellator debut will be against Johnson, but speaking to ESPN (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), ‘Rumble’ said he isn’t too sure about it.
“Dude, nobody has said a word to me. It is what it is. You know me, I don’t pick out fights, I let them come to me. If it makes sense I’ll take it, if it doesn’t what’s the point. But, once again I can’t call out anybody,” Johnson said. “If Yoel says it’s 90 percent, or whatever he said, I don’t know where he is getting his information from because no one has approached me about it. Maybe that is the way of calling me out nicely, I have no idea. If he calls me out, he calls me out. You know me, I always show respect to my opponents whoever it is, even if you aren’t an opponent, I’ll show you respect. I don’t know. We will roll the dice and see what happens.”
“All Of Them”
Johnson wants to fight in the first quarter of 2021, preferably in April or May, and has a lot of options, including Romero, Corey Anderson, reigning champion Vadim Nemkov, and his one-time opponents Phil Davis and Ryan Bader. When asked who he wants to face in his new promotion, the 36 year old said he plans on fighting all of the top guys in Bellator’s light heavyweight division.
“All of them. It is not just one,” Johnson said.
Johnson last competed at UFC 210 against Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight champion, losing the fight via rear naked choke in the second round.
