Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are gearing up for a boxing showdown in February.

‘Gamebred’ retired in April following a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287, but he’s now set to return against former foe Diaz. The pair previously clashed for the BMF title at UFC 244, with ‘Street Jesus’ winning by a doctor’s stoppage at the end of round three.

After almost five years, the two are now gearing up for another showdown, but this time in a boxing ring, according to Josh Thomson, who spilled the beans on his Weighing In podcast.

“There’s just no way in any avenue I can see this fight coming to fruition,” Thomson said about the possibility of Masvidal returning to MMA. “Whether the [Justin] Gaethje fight or the Leon [Edwards] fight, not only because he’s coming off four losses, but on top of that, like I said, he’s- I feel like he’s scheduled to fight, if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen, but from what I’m hearing, that fight’s supposed to happen February 28th against Nate Diaz.

“In a boxing match, so if that fight happens, the UFC’s not gonna bank on their main event or their co-main-event against Leon Edwards against Jorge Masvidal, knowing that he fights two or three weeks before.”

Masvidal hasn’t stepped into the boxing ring since his win against Joseph Benjamin in 2005, whereas Diaz most recently made his debut against Jake Paul in a losing case.
