Conor McGregor wants to fight newly-crowned BMF champion Justin Gaethje, but the latter doesn’t seem very interested.
Gaethje had called McGregor out on multiple occasions in the past, but the Irishman didn’t take him seriously, poking fun at him at every opportunity. Now that Gaethje is riding high, ‘The Notorious’ wants a piece of the Arizona native, but what about the times he turned him down?
“There’s a reason that he has turned me down six times,” Gaethje said while speaking to TMZ Sports. How you lose to me is not how you can lose and continue to be Conor McGregor. That’s a big risk for him and he’s always saying something, trying to take the light away from people fighting in the cage. Whatever. I know it’s entertainment but I don’t really want to buy into that and play that game.”
Gaethje is focused on winning a real belt for now, and he is eyeing a lightweight title fight against the winner of Islam Makhachev vs Chares Oliveira 2, which is scheduled to take place at UFC 294. But given the nature of the fight game, where money, at times, changes the picture completely, Gaethje wouldn’t rule out a fight with McGregor.
“I think so and that’s my plan, that’s my goal,” Gaethje said. “I’m going to get right back to training with that in mind. But with UFC, you never know. You just gotta stay mentally ready to start training because these are long camps so you got to be mentally ready so you kind of try to stay a little bit halfway in between. Because who knows what’s gonna happen?”
Who do you think Justin Gaethje should fight next?
