Alex Volkanovski believes former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan will reclaim his lost glory.
Yan is getting ready to step back into the Octagon against Song Yadong at UFC 299, where he’ll be hoping to come back strong after losing four out of his last five fights.
The Russian’s back is certainly against the wall heading into his next battle, but his Tiger Muay Thai training partner, Volkanovski, is backing him to the hilt.
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Volkanovski shared his thoughts on Yan vs Yadong.
“That is a fun fight,” Volkanovski said. “You know, Petr Yan’s my guy and I know what he’s capable of. I think stylistically as well, it’s not bad, even though Song Yadong is that good and I feel like he’s a big threat to a lot of the people in that division, most people in that division in fact, I just feel like, stylistically, this isn’t too bad of a fight for Petr Yan. His defensive pressure, his defensive boxing, I think against someone powerful like Song Yadong, is gonna go very well for him.
“I think this is a great fight for him, especially ’cause not many people want to fight Song Yadong. I think this one, obviously after a couple of losses for Petr Yan, this will put him right back up there in title contention or, you know, back on the top echelon where you need to start giving these guys respect and at least talk about them not being too far from a title shot. And he’s a former champ, so he might be in them conversations anyway.”
Will Petr Yan come out on top in his upcoming fight against Song Yadong at UFC 299?
