Dana White has said that Conor McGregor’s UFC return is entirely in his hands.
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of UFC 296, Dana made a startling revelation about McGregor by saying that he might not be motivated or eager to compete.
McGregor most recently fought at UFC 264, where he lost to Dustin Poirier by a stoppage after breaking his tibia in the first round.
Like MMA aficionados, Dana is also excited about the prospect of McGregor making a comeback but the UFC president isn’t sure when the Irishman will make a move.
“Listen, at the end of the day, you know, I say it all the time, Conor [McGregor] is extremely wealthy,” Dana said. “He has a lot of different options in his life. You know, when Conor gets that hunger back and wants to come back [to the UFC] and fight, it’s all up to him.”
McGregor is currently dealing with delays due to USADA, as he won’t be eligible to compete this year due to a mandatory six-month testing period. However, with USADA set to part ways with the UFC starting January 1, 2024, the door for a potential comeback could open sooner than expected for the Dublin native.
While it’s unclear when the Irishman will have his next fight, there are speculations about a matchup with Michael Chandler, potentially at UFC 300.
