Gilbert Burns has expressed full confidence that he would emerge victorious in a potential rematch against Belal Muhammad.
Burns and Muhammad crossed paths in May at UFC 288, with the Brazilian facing defeat by unanimous decision after a five-round bout, which ‘Durinho’ later revealed was due to a torn left shoulder he suffered during the fight.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Burns said that because he wasn’t feeling 100 percent in their first fight, he would get the job done if the two were to face each other again in the Octagon.
“One hundred percent me healthy, I would destroy Belal Muhammad, and I would get that win back,” Burns said. “I don’t know if it’s going to happen right now, but it’s going to happen, and I’ll show everybody that I’m way better than him.
“I’m clear. No pain. Shoulder is moving good. All range of motion is back. Strength. I’d say anything March or April, UFC 299 or UFC 300, I’ll be ready to go.”
Burns currently sits at the fourth position in the pound-for-pound rankings of the welterweight division. Despite a recent setback, he has notable victories over fighters like Jorge Masvidal, Neil Magny, Stephen Thompson, Tyron Woodley, Gunnar Nelson, and Demian Maia.
Muhammad on the other hand hasn’t lost for a while, and he is hoping to face the winner of the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington at UFC 296.
