Zabit Magomedsharipov has confirmed that he’s calling it quits, a day after officially notifying the UFC about his decision.
Magomedsharipov was one of the promotion’s brightest prospects, who boasted a record of 6-0 with notable wins over Jeremy Stephens and Calvin Kattar. The Dagestani was booked to fight Yair Rodriguez in 2020, but the fight was cancelled after the latter pulled out due to injury.
Zabit Magomedsharipov On Retirement
In the summer of 2021, it was revealed that Magomedsharipov was facing health issues, more specifically with his immune system and he wouldn’t be able to fight until the problems were resolved. In an Instagram post, Zabit said that although he has recovered, he doesn’t feel the same way about fighting as he used to.
“Assalamu alaikum (peace be upon you) friends. I know that many of you were waiting for my return, there was not a single day that someone did not ask when my next fight was. But I decided to end my pro sports career. Disruptions of fights, and then health problems – all this did not allow me to perform/fight earlier. I have recovered now, but I don’t feel the way I used to. Thank you to everyone who has supported me for such a long time. I didn’t have time to become a champion, but I think, even without this, I hope I was able to please/entertain you I cease to be an active athlete, but I do not leave the sport. I have something and with whom to share my knowledge. So don’t say goodbye, friends.”
