Undefeated UFC welterweight star Shavkat Rakhmonov isn’t taking Ian Garry seriously.
Rakhmonov and Garry are two of the most exciting rising stars in MMA. Both compete in the UFC’s welterweight division and remain unbeaten, but it looks like one of them will soon lose their perfect record. After defeating Michael ‘Venom’ Page at UFC 303, the Irishman issued a challenge to Rakhmonov.
“Look, I’m gonna have a chat with Hunter and Dana later on, figure out what’s next,” Garry said. “There’s some big names, there’s some cool match-ups. You know, there’s Shavkat, 18-0, undefeated. I’d love to get my hands on him.
“I’ve trained with him, I’ve got nothing but respect for the guy, but I wanna be the first guy to take his 0 and I know I can do it. I’ve just beat the fastest guy in the division other than me. When it comes to striking and skills, I can do it. When it comes to grappling, we’ve seen the growth that I’ve had. I’m excited to go out there and prove it against someone like him.”
Garry recently took to X to reiterate his challenge to Rakhmonov.
“December 2024 Undefeated vs Undefeated let’s make this happen, Shavkat.”
Rakhmonov was quick to respond with a stern warning.
“100% finish rate vs 53% finish rate. It won’t even be close if it happens, Ian.”
Rakhmonov has also received a callout from Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena, who is undefeated in the UFC and riding a seven-fight winning streak.
