Sean Strickland has disclosed a key condition for a potential showdown against Khamzat Chimaev.
As UFC 300 looms on the horizon, fans are already abuzz discussing the matchups they hope to witness on that landmark card. For fighters currently scheduled, it appears that UFC 297 – where Strickland defends his middleweight belt against Dricus du Plessis – presents their final opportunity to make a swift return in time for the anticipated event on April 13.
Rumors are circulating about the possibility that the victor between Strickland and du Plessis could defend their title against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 300, or later in the year.
In a recent media scrum, Strickland addressed the prospect of a potential fight with Chimaev and disclosed a condition that could pave the way for the matchup.
“It’s kind of hard man, I’d prefer somebody new,” Strickland said. “Chimaev- I mean, rankings f***ing matter dude, like who is – has Chimaev ever fought an 85er? But who is he – I mean he had not fought a ranker 85er then he fought – he took Usman off the couch for a week, like, come on dude, like, stop f***ing with UFC, go back to being a real f***ing sporting event, go back to f***ing rankings, I don’t give a f***, again, I don’t give a f*** who it is, make the stack of money bigger, I’ll fight you, you know?”
Chimaev last fought at UFC 294, where he defeated former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman by a closely-contested decision.
