Frankie Edgar has offered his insights into the rumored matchup between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor.

‘The Notorious’ took to ‘X’ at New Year’s Eve to announce his plan to re-enter the Octagon against Chandler in a middleweight fight at International Fight Week on June 29. However, Dana White later dismissed the claims, revealing that it isn’t official yet. Rumor has it that the UFC is planning to book the Irishman against the American for the inaugural 165-pound title at UFC 300.

Whether the bout unfolds at 165 or 185 pounds, former UFC lightweight champ Edgar thinks ‘The Notorious’ one will have his work cut out for him.

“If this is at ‘85, I’m saying Chandler all the way,” Edgar said during UFC 297 Q/A.“At welterweight, I think Conor has a shot in the first round, but I’m going Chandler.”

McGregor’s most recent bout was a trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at 170 pounds, and it ended in a calamity as he couldn’t go beyond the first five minutes due to a broken tibia. Since the July 2021 pay-per-view event, he has been on the sidelines, focusing on his recovery.

Several years ago, Edgar, a former lightweight champion and a contender in various weight classes, expressed interest in facing McGregor. Despite the match never coming to fruition, ‘The Answer’ believes he had a strong chance of handing the Dublin native his first loss at featherweight.

“In my prime, I think I would have done well with him,” Edgar said.
