Daniel Cormier believes Dustin Poirier shouldn’t retire just yet and suggests he should take another fight with Conor McGregor if the opportunity arises.

Poirier’s dream of becoming the undisputed UFC champion ended at UFC 302 when he was submitted by UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev in the fifth round. After the fight, he announced his unofficial retirement, stating that only a big fight could change his mind.

If that’s the case, then what’s bigger than a McGregor fight?

Cormier believes that despite Poirier’s 2-1 record against McGregor, he should strongly consider a fourth fight if the opportunity arises. On his YouTube show, Cormier suggested that ‘The Diamond’ has more a ton of fight left in him.

“Dustin Poirier, since saying that he was thinking about walking away from the sport, has had a ton to say,” Cormier said. “You could see inside of him that there’s a lot there. The fire still burns inside ‘The Diamond.’ This week he’s fired shots at Michael Chandler. Conor McGregor.

“I thought you said you might be ready to walk away from this thing, DP. It don’t sound like you’re a guy that wants to walk away from this thing, and honestly, if I was advising you, I would say, ‘Don’t, you’ve got far too much to give.’ Dustin Poirier’s a dog, he’s gonna fight anybody. He’s gonna fight them on the street, too. I think if the McGregor opportunity presents itself, that’s gotta happen.”
