Dana White wishes to see Tony Ferguson ride into the sunset at UFC on ABC 7 in August.
The former interim UFC lightweight champion, who is currently riding a seven-fight losing skid, hopes to return to winning ways when he faces Michael Chiesa at UFC on ABC 7. Regardless of the outcome of the fight, Ferguson remains determined to keep fighting.
However, Dana wants the UFC legend to retire irrespective of the result of his next fight.
“(Should Ferguson retire?) Yeah, I hope so,” Dana told MMA Junkie and other reporters at the UFC 302 post-fight news conference. “Yeah. I would like to see him retire.”
Chiesa believes his upcoming fight against Ferguson is a perfect matchup since he feels that their recent career trajectories make this bout fair. Many fans argued that Ferguson should have faced Nick Diaz since they are evenly matched.
‘The Maverick’ disagrees, however.
“There are definitely people sending me messages like, ‘Take it easy on him, please let him win.’ I’m like, you’ve got to remember dude, at the end of the day this is still Tony Ferguson,” Chiesa said. “He is not fighting a guy that is in his 20s on a win streak. He is fighting a guy that’s 36 and is 0-3 in his last three fights. It’s a fight that honestly makes sense.”
