Conor McGregor won't go to jail for driving

Conor McGregor has avoided jail time for his 2022 driving incident, but he’ll still face consequences for dangerous driving.

In March 2022, McGregor was arrested and had his car seized in Ireland for dangerous driving, including running a red light and speeding through traffic, almost causing a collision. On Wednesday, according to the Irish Mirror, McGregor settled the matter by accepting a five-month suspended sentence, agreeing to pay a €5,000 fine and maintaining good behavior for two years.

McGregor also received a two-year driving ban. He faced additional charges for driving without insurance and a license, but these were withdrawn after he provided the necessary documents.

The Irishman’s recent two-year driving ban isn’t his first run-in with traffic violations. In 2018, he received a six-month driving ban and a $1,000 fine for speeding, with numerous other motor convictions on his record. Judge David McHugh considered an outright prison sentence due to McGregor’s history of road traffic offenses and dangerous driving. However, the former UFC champ-champ’s counsel successfully argued for alternative options.

McGregor last fought at UFC 264 in 2021, where he suffered a leg injury against Dustin Poirier. He was slated to return at UFC 303 earlier this year but had to withdraw due to a toe injury. The Dublin native now aims to make his comeback before the year’s end.
