Alex Volkanovski has revealed how Aljamain Sterling could secure a featherweight title shot.

Last month, the ‘Funk Master’ revealed that he is considering a move up to featherweight following a loss at the hands of Sean O’Malley in their bantamweight title fight at UFC 292. Should he move up to featherweight, Sterling would like to face Max Holloway in his divisional debut.

In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Volkanovski gave his thoughts on Sterling’s move up to the 145-pound division and a potential matchup with Holloway.

“Look man he’s a good fighter,” Alex Volkanovski said. “I can see what he’s doing. He knows that he’s like, alright, I won’t get a title fight anytime soon. But look, he takes out Max [Holloway], he’s next [for a title shot]. It’s that simple.

“He knows that, and good on him. He’s game, you know what I mean? He knows the clear path to that title. He knows ‘I’m not getting it now, no way I’m going for champ-champ right now, but if I fight, I can be one fight away from a title if I take out Max.’ I’m sure he knows that it’s a tough fight. But he just looks at it ‘That’s how I get to the title’. Good on him, you have to respect that.”

While Sterling eyes a move up to featherweight, Holloway is looking to do the same by moving up to lightweight and challenging Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt. ‘The Highlight’, however, is focused on Islam Makhachev.
