Colby Covington is one of the most controversial figures in the sport of MMA today. Although he has hinted that he’s playing the heel, it does not sit well with many people.

Last week, “Chaos” announced that he is moving out of American Top Team. And many have speculated that it was as a result of his controversial remarks towards his fellow teammates. Covington’s former teammate and best friend Jorge Masvidal, has accused him of being kicked out of the gym.

Covington and Masvidal have been going back and forth in interviews and on social media for the last year. And speaking to “The Score MMA” (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), Colby said that now is the time for the two welterweights to settle their differences inside the Octagon.

“It would definitely be the friends-turned-enemies angle with ‘Journeyman,’ ‘Street Judas,’ Jorge Masvidal. Jorge can’t read, he can’t write, he can’t spell and he definitely can’t fight. What’s going on? Why does [Masvidal] not want to fight Usman? Why’s he holding out? Why’s he scared? Maybe there’s something going on that we don’t know about,” Covington said.

“Maybe Jorge wants ‘America’s champ,’ maybe he wants the ‘People’s Champ,’ maybe he wants Donald Trump’s favourite fighter and maybe he wants Miami’s favourite fighter, because he claims to be from Miami. But, everybody knows I’m the king of Miami right now and I run the streets of Miami… The UFC knows that I’ve expressed my interest and I want my rematch with ‘Marty FakeNewsman’ which I deserve. Or, I want this fight with Journeyman Jorge Masvidal.”

Covington has consistently claimed that he always dominated Masvidal in training sessions and believes he would do the same inside the Octagon.

“You don’t really want to get locked in a cage with me. You don’t really want to fight me Jorge, because you know what happens every time we train together and we fight. I beat your ass and I carry limb from limb,” Covington said. “I take your soul out of your body. There’s only two fights that need to be made, and if the UFC doesn’t make them, that’s okay I’ll keep getting better.”

Covington last fought at UFC 245 last December against champion Kamaru Usman, in a barn burner. But unfortunately “Chaos” came up just short, after referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight late in the fifth round.
