UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has announced that he verbally agreed to his next fight.
Jones made his return to the Octagon after a three year lay-off at UFC 285, where he defeated Ciryl Gane to win the heavyweight title. A few months later, he was booked to battle former champion Stipe Miocic in a clash for the ages, but unfortunately, he had to withdraw due to a pectoral muscle injury.
After prolonged speculation, he has revealed that he has finalized a date for his UFC return. However, he has opted to let the UFC handle the formal announcement.
“I have a date,” Jones revealed on ‘X’. “I’ll let boss man Dana [White] announce that.”

‘Bones’ acknowledged that while the fight appears likely to happen, he is yet to receive contractual paperwork. Therefore, it’s not set in stone until those bout agreements are finalized.
“Nope [can’t announce anything yet], as right now it’s just a verbal agreement,” he wrote.
Jones hasn’t named his opponent yet, but it seems probable that he’ll face Miocic later this year. He’s keen on fighting the former heavyweight champ because he’s regarded as the baddest man in the history of MMA.
Miocic isn’t the only name in the discussion, though. In recent discussions, Jones has considered the possibility of facing others like Alex Pereira and interim UFC heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall. However, Miocic appears to be the frontrunner to face the New York native at this point in time.
