Michael Bisping believes former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor should part ways with his coach, John Kavanagh.

McGregor’s third fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 this past weekend ended with a doctor’s stoppage at the end of the first round after the Irishman was unable to continue due to a broken tibia, which he suffered late in the first frame.

Poirier was in full control of the fight, as he hurt McGregor on the feet early on and then took him down and hammered him with vicious elbows from top position for over two minutes, before standing up in the dying moments of the first round. Seconds after the two got back to their feet, ‘The Notorious’ fractured his tibia and crashed onto the canvas.

Despite McGregor getting overwhelmed for the majority of the round, Kavanagh said that he wasn’t concerned as everything was going according to plan, and his fighter would have finished the job in the second round if it wasn’t for the gruesome injury.

McGregor Should Fire Kavanagh

Speaking on BT Sport‘s UFC 264 post-fight show (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), Bisping said if that’s how Kavanagh saw the fight playing out, then McGregor should fire him immediately.

“Just like his coach John Kavanagh said, he said ‘Oh, I saw nothing that concerned me. I knew that in the second round we were getting the knockout. Nothing else in there concerned me at all.’ If that’s true, John Kavanagh, Conor should fire you immediately,” Bisping said. “That was very concerning, you were on your back and you were getting dominated. It was a 10-8 round, that’s concerning. You don’t want to get your ass kicked, simple as that and that was what was happening.

“The leg break was unfortunate. But, as I say it gives McGregor an excuse or a reason as to why the fight ended. If that didn’t happen, come on the odds of him turning it around and finishing Dustin in the second round when round one is supposed to be Conor’s best round, it wasn’t good. It wasn’t a good performance.”
