Khamzat Chimaev has fired back at Colby Covington after the latter called him unprofessional.

After spending a year on the sidelines, Covington made a surprising comeback when he stepped on the scales to weigh in as a backup for the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at UFC 286. After the fight, Dana White revealed that the American will fight for the title next, which irked other top contenders such as Belal Muhammad, and Khamzat Chimaev, despite the fact that the latter has focused all his energies on the middleweight division for now.

But that isn’t stopping him from firing back at welterweights dropping his name. In a recent video on his YouTube channel (as transcribed by MMA Fighting), Chimaev said that he accepted the Covington fight four times but the former interim champ didn’t want it. ‘Chaos’ however claims he was never offered a fight.

“Colby’s lying, he doesn’t want to fight,” Chimaev said. “I swear with everything I have. I swear with God, I accept the fight four times and all Muslims understand I swear with the Quran. I get a call four times ‘do you want to fight?’ I said yes. I had a conversation with Sean Shelby as well, I can show it, [that] we’re going to fight with this guy and it never happened. There is no more.”

Chimaev is currently eyeing a return to the Octagon, and Dana recently revealed that he’ll fight someone in the middleweight top three, which currently consists of Israel Adesanya, Robert Whittaker, and Jared Cannonier.
