Jorge Masvidal believes the UFC doesn’t have the best middleweight in the world, despite being home to some of the best 185-pound fighters in the world.

Masvidal last fought at UFC 272, where he lost to Colby Covington by unanimous decision, and will now face Gilbert Burns in the co-main event at UFC 287, where Alex Pereira will put his middleweight title on the line in a rematch against Israel Adesanya. According to popular belief, UFC champs are more often than not considered the best fighters in the world in their respective weight classes, but ‘Gamebred’ doesn’t agree with the idea.

Some MMA fans think Adesanya is the best in the world, while others believe it’s Pereira. Masvidal believes it’s neither.

Jorge Masvidal Names The Best Middleweight

In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience (as transcribed by BJPenn.com), Masvidal said that his teammate and Bellator middleweight champ Johnny Eblen is the best middleweight in the world.

“The best middleweight right now, his name is Johnny Eblen,” Masvidal said. “He’s at Bellator. This guy can wrestle, this guy can punch, this guy can kick, he’s just a beast. We’ve been sharpening iron, me and him, forever. There’s days that he f***ing runs me over, there’s days that I do very well, that I hold my own and we have great sessions.”

Eblen, who is 13-0 in MMA, won the Bellator middleweight title by dominating veteran Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 282 in July last year. In February this year, he made his first successful title defence by scoring a comfortable decision win against Russia’s Anatoly Tokov.

How would Johnny Eblen fare against the likes of Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira?
