Henry Cejudo believes Conor McGregor should avoid fighting the likes of Kamaru Usman and Charles Oliveira upon his return to the Octagon.

Having fully recovered from a broken tibia he suffered in his trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, McGregor is eyeing a return this year and wants to challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title, with Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler also calling him out after their wins at UFC 274. A third fight with Nate Diaz and a fourth one against Dustin Poirier can’t also be ruled out though.

While McGregor is confident that he would demolish the best fighters in the world, Cejudo believes he will get hurt if he faces high-level competition, especially after a lengthy lay off and his recent run of defeats. ‘Triple’ C believes the Irishman needs a tune up fight or two before a step up in competition.

Henry Cejudo On Conor McGregor

Speaking on his ‘The Triple C and Schmo Show‘, Cejudo said that Tony Ferguson, who is currently on a four fight losing skid, would be the perfect matchup for McGregor.

“I like the Tony Ferguson fight for him, I think that fight is winnable for Conor,” Cejudo said. “He cannot be taking these high-level competitions. He’s gonna get hurt… I think, go up to Tony and then of course he’s a cash cow. Give him whoever he wants at 155 pound or 170. I think he needs to get his feet wet. At least f***ing win man, win a damn fight.”

Earlier this week, Cejudo and McGregor traded shots on social media after the former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion once again critiqued his striking.

McGregor responded by calling Cejudo a ‘fat mess’ in a series of replies on Twitter which have now been deleted.

Do you agree with Henry Cejudo that Conor McGregor should fight Tony Ferguson next?
